I Love The Church // Multiply
[ECC Lead Pastor, Scott Moore, Covington Campus]
God loves the concept of multiplication. Everything God created He intended to multiply.
Multiplication is better than addition.
- Jesus always intended His church to multiply.
So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace and was being built up. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it multiplied. (Acts 9:31 ESV)
Why would a loving God want us to fear Him?
Several times in Scripture fire is used to physically represent God.
Fire is good. But fire is also very dangerous. Fire is powerful. We have a healthy fear of fire.
The early church had great fear and respect for God. But they also walked “in the comfort of the Holy Spirit”.
..and they “multiplied!”
Eastridge is one church in two locations. But we are not about being a big church that multiplies..we are a church that is trying to multiply by rescuing the lost and making them into disciples. That takes relationships!
- Making disciples is the key.
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20 ESV)
The church cannot program discipleship.
The church can offer some resources such as the Multiply Material by Francis Chan.
- Am I being discipled?
- Am I discipling others?
Bottom line: Disciple-makers multiply.
And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved. (Acts 2:42-47 ESV)
Action step: Embrace multiply.
