Sunday Sermon // Jesus Is… :: Prince of Peace

Jesus Is… // Prince of Peace

[ECC Student Pastor, Kurt Petersheim, Covington Campus]

For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on his shoulders. And he will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (‭Isaiah‬ ‭9‬:‭6‬ NLT)

Do you ever have a freak out moment?

Do things like death, finances, politics, kids, relationships cause you to sometimes freak out?

Then Jesus got into the boat and started across the lake with his disciples. Suddenly, a fierce storm struck the lake, with waves breaking into the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!” Jesus responded, “Why are you afraid? You have so little faith!” Then he got up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly there was a great calm. The disciples were amazed. “Who is this man?” they asked. “Even the winds and waves obey him!” (‭Matthew‬ ‭8‬:‭23-27‬ NLT)

  • Jesus keeps calm.

Jesus doesn’t freak out in the storm. As a matter of fact, he doesn’t even comment on their circumstances. He asks about their faith.

Jesus cares more about our faith than our storms.

  • Jesus speaks up.

Jesus speaks on behalf of the people on the boat. He rebukes the waves and wind. And the disciples received peace.

When Jesus speaks up on our behalf, he brings us peace. In our storms,J esus speaks up and brings us peace.

  • Who is this man?

When we see amazing peace brought about by Jesus, we ask that same question. Who is this man?

Sar shalom – Prince of Peace – keeper of you inner soundness

Jesus is the only thing that will bring us inner soundness. Not money, relationships, food, drink, job security, kids, etc. only Jesus. Only Jesus.

Our relationship with Jesus is not about how tightly we grip’s about Jesus HOLDING onto us.

So ask yourself, who is holding who?

You don’t see a small child riding on the back of his father with the father yelling, “hold on little buddy because if you lose grip then bad things will happen.” NO..the FATHER HOLDS TIGHTLY TO THE CHILD.

If you are a child of God, then it’s not about you holding on tighter. It is about the Father holding you.

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord. (‭Romans‬ ‭8‬:‭38-39‬ NLT)

Jesus is not PART of our spiritual equation..He IS the equation.

We will not be able to weather the storms of life by holding on..we will weather the storms of life because Jesus will keep us calm and He will speak up on our behalf.

Let our faith grow stronger in Jesus..not our grip. He is our Prince of Peace.
