(Today’s post by Marc Cannon)
The temple of the Lord; what a place it must have been. Its size, the colors, the precision of construction, was no doubt magnificent. After all this is where the Lord dwelt on earth. This is where the people of Israel had their sacrifices laid before the Lord. There was a room where the Lord planted His feet and ruled in majesty from the Throne Room. Only priest were allowed to meet with the Lord in the holiest place on earth. Can you imagine the awe and fear they must have trembled with?
I’ve tried to imagine what it would have been like to be a priest and to meet with the Lord in His presence. The awe, His Glory, His unimaginable majesty must have been overwhelming. Can you imagine?
This led me to ask myself a question: Where do I meet with God?
As Christians there are times when we look at our relationship with God as nothing more than a carved out structured quiet time and then we move on with our day. Now, there is nothing wrong with a quiet time and it’s wise to start the day with the Lord. But, our bodies are more than flesh and bone. The Holy Spirit resides in us. That makes us the temple! The same care has been taken to precisely craft each one of us just as the temple structure. That gives us unlimited access to meet with the Lord. We have unlimited access to hear from the Lord. We have unlimited access to worship the Lord.
I wish I could say that I had a continual conversation with Him all the live-long-day, but for the most part that’s not the case at all. The fact of the matter is that a lot of the time we/I don’t treat our relationship with Him like a relationship. Sometimes those regimented times become a chore. When we can come to the realization that our relationship with Him is, in fact, a living breathing relationship, not unlike how we interact with those who are most important in our lives, we’ll begin to experience more of Him. Think about it, how often to you talk to those in your life who mean the most? For most of us it’s every day and multiple times a day. We make it a priority to meet with those who we cherish the most. We seek their advice, their love and their company.
Do you make it priority to seek the Lord’s advice? Spend time with Him in Communion? Enjoy His love?
So where do I meet with God? I meet Him wherever I am. It can be deep prayer or just a whisper of thanks. It can be listening to His still small voice or just lifting my hand in praise at His blessings. Whenever I meet with Him I experience the same awe and I’m overwhelmed by His Glory and Majesty just as the priest of the temple.
So, where do you meet with the Lord?
