Next Step Living // Part 1

[ECC Lead Pastor, Scott Moore, Covington Campus]

In nature, nothing stays the same..all things are constantly changing.
Things are growing, dying or dead.
And our spiritual lives are no different.
Successful people, businesses and organizations have one thing in common..FOCUS.
My focus determines my destination.

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. (Matthew 6:33 NLT)

When I focus on Jesus, everything changes.

No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us. (Philippians 3:13, 14 NLT)

When I focus on Jesus, everything changes.

How do I focus on Jesus?

Forget the past..

For I decided that while I was with you I would forget everything except Jesus Christ, the one who was crucified. (1 Corinthians 2:2 NLT)

  • Hurts
  • Disappointments
  • Your glory days
  • Sins

He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west. (Psalms 103:12 NLT)

Focus on Jesus..

  • His promises.
We will order our lives around a serious promise (marriage, mortgage, business deals). People sometimes break promises and hurt us and others. God will never break a promise to us.
The Bible has over 3000 promises.

God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through? (Numbers 23:19 NLT)

God is waiting to bless his people through his promises.

  • His answers (through prayer).

Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6, 7 NLT)

  • His presence.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up. (Hebrews 12:1-3 NLT)

We can run with endurance only by keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus.

When I focus on Jesus, everything changes.
