Without God, I Am Nothing

(Today's post by Keith Senator)

2 Samuel 22

In 2 Sam 22 we see David pronouncing a song of praise to God. He really shows a heart of one who can be used of God. Once in my life, back in 1991, I came as close as I ever have to understanding the depth of what David is referring to here. I don't know if you know what I am talking about, but it is a razor thin line of strict obedience and utter awe of the power of God.

It is clear in this passage that David has a clear understanding that without God his enemy would easily overtake him. It is also clear that he realizes that if he is living a life of sin that God cannot really use him.

David takes this opportunity to announce his appreciation to God who defeats his foes. But there is so much more going on here.

Imagine in each of our lives. Can you see the hand of God? Not only does he thwart the enemy and stand in our stead as we are obedient to him. But he loves us unconditionally. He is the rock in any circumstance. But make no mistake, there is no room for the wishy washy walk. I do not know if I can really encapsulate the concept. But there is no turning left or right. There is no room for self. There is only Him. But when we truly abide in Him, He is praised, He is highlighted, He is seen instead of us. His ways are the only true ways. I do not pretend to be a man who understands this fully. But intellectually I see it. I know it.

Lord give us the grace to walk out in our daily lives the understanding of your power, your might, and the strict allegiance you rightly deserve.
