Sunday Sermon // ACTIVATE : Restoration Requires Reaching Out

ACTIVATE : taking the message of Hope to the world // Restoration Requires Reaching Out

[ECC Lead Pastor, Scott Moore, Covington Campus]

Do you have a cruise line mentality of church or do you have a Coast Guard mentality?

Reaching Out..

  • Often hurts because reality hurts.
  • Always cost something.
  • Is always worth it.

Jesus reached out.

Now he had to go through Samaria. So he came to a town in Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph. Jacob’s well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about noon. When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?” (John 4:4-7 NIV)

Disciples are to reach out.

As for Philip, an angel of the Lord said to him, “Go south down the desert road that runs from Jerusalem to Gaza.” So he started out, and he met the treasurer of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under the Kandake, the queen of Ethiopia. The eunuch had gone to Jerusalem to worship, and he was now returning. Seated in his carriage, he was reading aloud from the book of the prophet Isaiah. The Holy Spirit said to Philip, “Go over and walk along beside the carriage.” (Acts 8:26-29 NLT)

So beginning with this same Scripture, Philip told him the Good News about Jesus. As they rode along, they came to some water, and the eunuch said, “Look! There’s some water! Why can’t I be baptized?” He ordered the carriage to stop, and they went down into the water, and Philip baptized him. (Acts 8:35, 36, 38 NLT)

The Church is to reach out.

Now I want you to know, dear brothers and sisters, what God in his kindness has done through the churches in Macedonia. They are being tested by many troubles, and they are very poor. But they are also filled with abundant joy, which has overflowed in rich generosity. For I can testify that they gave not only what they could afford, but far more. And they did it of their own free will. They begged us again and again for the privilege of sharing in the gift for the believers in Jerusalem. They even did more than we had hoped, for their first action was to give themselves to the Lord and to us, just as God wanted them to do. (2 Corinthians 8:1-5 NLT)

Restoration Requires Reaching Out

Action Steps:

  1. We must reach out personally. (Share your story,)
  2. We must reach out collectively. Pray about pledging to ACTIVATE and the Day of Sacrifice on September 8.
