Adversity and Blessing

(Today's post by Jacob Moore)

2 Samuel 4-5:16

The verses in 2 Samuel 4 – 5:16 that stand out to me most:

“‘As the Lord lives, who has redeemed my life out of every adversity.’” 4:9a

“And David knew that the Lord had established him king over Israel, and that he had exalted his kingdom for the sake of his people Israel.” 5:12

David acknowledges that his life is in the Lord’s hands, and that any difficulties David triumphed over, he triumphed over them solely because of the Lord.

David also acknowledges that he was established king over Israel because of God, and that it was for the sake of His people.

This is so applicable in my own life. I know for a fact that my adversities are nothing like David’s adversities. If I somehow got a chance to tell David about my difficulties, he probably wouldn’t even see the difficultness. But still, to me they can be giants. How do I overcome them? I don’t, God does.

God has given me good things, and so often I am too selfish with them. I enjoy writing, and there are some days in which I’m even decent at it. I consider that a blessing, but I don’t use it for the sake of God’s people as often as I should. I have money, not a lot, but I have money, and that’s a blessing, but I don’t use it for the sake of God’s people as often as I should. I’m capable of speaking, not too well and sometimes it’s a mess, but I’m capable of speaking, and that’s a blessing, but I don’t use it for the sake of God’s people as often as I should. I have hands and I have feet, definitely not strongest hands or the best smelling feet (nor the worst smelling mind you), but I have hands and feet, and that’s a blessing, but I don’t use them for the sake of God’s people as often as I should. I have clothes, not the coolest and a lot of my shirts have sweat stains, but I have clothes and that’s a blessing, but I don’t use them for the sake of God’s people as often as I should.
