Enduring the crap to see the harvest..

The smell is horrible.

Seriously.

You walk outside on an early spring morning to sit on the back porch with a cup of coffee and a good book..

and BAM!!!

The smell will knock you out.

Yup..the smell of chicken manure freshly spread over all the hay fields around my house.

  • It’s pungent.
  • It’s nasty.
  • It’s messy.
  • It’s hard to endure.
  • But it makes for a great healthy summer harvest.

“Without oxen a stable stays clean, but you need a strong ox for a large harvest.” (Proverbs 14:4 NLT)

  • I want things to be clean.
  • I want ministry to be easy.
  • I want structure, order, equality….
  • AND I want to see the Lord grow His church.

However, the only way to have that clean stable is to completely get rid of the oxen. But then you lose the large harvest, too.

Clean stable vs messy oxen!?!

We need the stable, with it’s corrals and fences to help protect the oxen from outside elements, a place where the farmer feeds the oxen and meets some of the oxen’s needs, and gives him a place to rest and prepare for the next days work. So the stable is very important.

And of course you need an oxen to plow the fields. A good strong oxen.

But if the oxen is in the stable..well he’s gonna make a mess, strew hay, and crap all over the floor.

Maybe we just have to endure some crap to see large harvests?

My prayer today is that I will value the oxen as much as I value the clean stable.

What do you think?

Do you endure the crap to see the harvest?

(And they say that crap even makes good fertilizer..but it still stinks..I can attest to that.)
