Who Holds The Stick? : How to Use Resistance for Good.

Let’s face it..if you’ve ever tried to do anything of any substance..you have been met with resistance.

Resistance is powerful.

Think about how the ancients would rub a stick against a flint rock until there was a spark..then a fire..then warmth, protection, cooked food, power! But that spark is created by just the right amount of resistance. Who controls that resistance? The one holding the stick.

Too much resistance and progress stops.

Just enough resistance and you have fire..and ultimately power.

Nehemiah (chapter 2) met resistance when he began the audacious project of rebuilding the wall of Jerusalem.

When Sanballat the Horonite, Tobiah the Ammonite official, and Geshem the Arab heard about it, they laughed at us, mocking, “Ha! What do you think you’re doing?”

But Nehemiah knew that his vision for this project came from God. It was God-inspired. So, when Nehemiah was met with this resistance he could have let it discourage him and ultimately stop his progress (read more on conquering discouragement here)..OR..he could use the resistance to propel him and possibly even force him to communicate where his power source is and who is holding “the stick”.

Nehemiah replies:

“The God-of-Heaven will make sure we succeed. We’re his servants and we’re going to work, rebuilding. You can keep your nose out of it.”

Attaboy Nehemiah.

Where are you meeting resistance right now?

Are your plans God-inspired?

If so, maybe you need to remind yourself and your naysayers what your power source is and who is holding the stick?

The right amount of resistance can create fire..and ultimately power.

Be empowered today by the resistance..Jesus is your power source and you hold the stick..
