What’s Your Good-O-Meter Score?

Have you measured your goodness lately?

Have you saved a kitten stuck in a tree?

Have you helped an old lady cross the street?

Have you given money to a charity?

Have you read your Bible several days in a row?

Have you been patient with your kids?

Have you been to church every time the doors were open?

Have you been generally good? Or at least better than most of those other folks???

Well..those things are good..sure..but good really isn’t what it’s all about, is it?

No one is righteous—not even one..
No one does good, not a single one. (Romans 3:10 & 13)

I can get caught up in thinking that I need to:

  • be better
  • try harder
  • work for God

And that’s a TRAP..I will never be good enough..I can never try hard enough..I can never earn God’s approval.

Love is love.

It is unconditional.

And it is given away!

I cannot make God love me any more than He does at this very second.

I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life. (John 5:24)

I heard someone say recently it’s not about going from “bad to good” it’s about going from “death to life”.

What do you think?

Do you get caught up in trying to earn God’s approval instead of accepting His love?

Thank God in heaven above His love for me is not determined by my “goodness”!! There is no good in me of which I can boast, but rather the knowledge that the only good is Christ in me. It sounds like one of those really “churchy” answers, yet it is a truth resounding in my broken life on a daily basis.
