Saturday Poll: What Did You Notice First?

Whether you attend Eastridge Community Church or not..I’m interested in your perspective.

Think back to the first time you set foot into your current place of worship..

What was the first thing you noticed?

How did it impact you (how did it make you feel?)

Currently I do not attend a church, I do visit a lot of them tho. The things that i notice when i walk into one is. 1. How are the people sitting, are they grouped together or are they kinda spread out. I have noticed that a church that the people sit in groups are not as friendly as one that doesn’t. 2. Has any one noticed that i am new here? In a large church people sometimes become more of a number than a person. I have been to a few that the guy at the door was more interested in the counter in his hand, than in saying Good Morning and shaking mine. 3. The Music. Do they play at least one song (a hymn) that i might know the words to with out looking at a screen and trying to sing along with them. 4. The Message. Every preacher has a different style of preaching. Am I able to receive his message thru his style of preaching? Did he preach from the Word of God, or is he telling every one more about his fishing trip last week? I have seen this happen. 5. Does the preacher try to introduce himself to you or speak to you at all. I was raised in a small church in Porterdale. Where everyone knew each other, hymns were sung, the spirit was felt, when he preached from the Word of God (Bible) it would give you chills, and afterward he was at the door to shake your hand when you left. I am not looking for that because i know i will never find it, what i am looking for is a church that reminds me of that.

I’d have to say the first thing I noticed were the extremely nice people. Our son had just been born and he was hungry on one of our early visits to ECC. Someone offered an empty room for my wife to use to feed him. We felt right at home and knew ECC was the church God wanted us to worship him in.

We go to church in Watkinsville at Briarwood Baptist. We have young kids, so we were looking for a church for the whole family. I loved the people at Briarwood. They were very sweet and welcoming. They offer good programs for our kids. The church still looks very traditional-which we love. But, we sing traditional and contemporary music. I preferred the traditional worship at first, but the contemporary music has grown on me.

HAHA – When I first started attending Crosspointe, they were meeting at Eastside – which I thought was weird! But my initial reaction was, I don’t really care for that church very much! That’s what I told Jason when we left, but we went back a few times (we always gave churches a month or so before making any choices). . . I fell in love with the vision and the people!!!

The first thing I noticed about Eastridge was how friendly every one was. The second time I was impressed that Scott remembered my name.

I attend a place called His Hands church in Woodstock. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was the people to be honest. It has a coffee type place up front and a sit down area. As far as in the actual main room the first thing I noticed was the media stuff and the openness, but then again I used to work with media. I have to say it made me feel more free to express myself because there were more people around to say get lost in the crowd.

The first thing I noticed when I walked into Glen Haven was the friendliness of the people. They were genuinely welcoming and warm. I instantly felt at home, which I desperately needed at the time. A sense of peace just washed over me.

Wow that looks like a comfortable couch and recylner, and smell of food coming from the Kitchen.

    The chairs.

Don’t ask me why, but I guess I was taken in by the modern chairs and stage. (As opposed to the pews and traditional altar of my Lutheran rearing.)

But, larger than that, I was completely taken in by the feeling of love and warmth and complete acceptance found inside the doors of Eastridge. Still am taken in by it, 5 years later.

And I love those chairs. They now represent so many people who have touched my life in so many ways, I’d hate to think where I would be had I never stepped foot on that campus.

Ummmm, I go to a Vineyard church and I was somewhat freaked out because the manner in which they worshipped was so different than what I was used to at my Baptist church. But through a long chain of events God kept on showing me that was where he wanted me to be. I’ve been there over 15 years and I’m now a worship leader there.
