I know you can hear me..

Does your child ever ignore you? Come on now, be honest!

When she is completely immersed in putting the final touches on that last bunny rabbit in the coloring book..and you call her name.

Does she reply?

Does she stop mid-stroke and lay her crayola down to immediately come running to you you?

Or is it possible that she:

  • ignores you altogether
  • exclaims politely, “just a minute”
  • cries because you are mean and she “never gets to do anything fun”
  • says, “you just don’t understand..I was almost finished”
  • hears your voice, but comes begrudgingly and complaining the whole time
  • or is simply defiant and then dishonest saying, “oh, I didn’t hear you”

As parents, we’ve all been there. As children of God the Father, we’ve all been there.

John 8:47 states, “He who belongs to God hears what God says.”

Again in John we read that we will “follow Him because we know His voice.” (John 10:4)

How many times is our lives have we:

  • ignored God altogether
  • politely (?) told Him “just wait a minute”
  • shook our fist and said, “you never let me do anything fun”
  • or “you just don’t understand”
  • maybe you responded to His voice, but did so with grumbling and disdain
  • or is it possible that you heard His voice all along (like scripture says) but kept doing your thing, then said, “oh, I didn’t hear you”

I know my child hears my voice. I am her father. She recognizes my voice. Can she be so caught up in her activity that she doesn’t “listen” for me..sure. And I can be that same way too.

What do you hear the Father saying to you right now?

Are you listening?
