..safety..comfort..happiness..
Most of us live for comfort. We work hard to get to a place where we can coast. Not a ton of challenges. No need for big risky ventures.
I’ll cross my fingers for a spouse who thinks that way too. Just let me work my 8am – 5pm job. Hopefully I’ll buy a house and a mini-van. Give me 2.5 kids and a dog. A small retirement would be great. We’ll go to church on Sunday. We’ll smile. We’ll go eat at El Charro and then we’ll go home and do it all over again next week.
I have no problem with routine..you can trust this OCDer on that one.
However, I do love comfort.
- But is Jesus comfortable?
- Is he safe?
- Doesn’t he want me to be happy?
“Safe? Who said anything about safe? ‘Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good. He’s the King, I tell you.” – The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe (C.S. Lewis)
- I don’t want to be comfortable. Comfort does NOT breed revolution.
- I don’t want to be safe. Safe people are NOT world changers.
- I don’t want to be caught up in whether or not I’m happy. Happy does NOT change lives.
How safe, comfortable, and happy have you become?
Are they still what you seek?
