if you’re not out front, you’re not leading..

I’ve heard John Maxwell say, “if you think you’re leading but when you look behind you no one is following you..then you’re just out for a walk.”

I have resolved that in 2010 I will be out front..leading the charge not bringing up the rear.

It may take risks..and well..it should.
It may cost me..and well..it should.
It may mean I sacrifice some of me..and well..it should.
It may mean I listen more and talk less..and well..it should.
It may mean I serve more..and well..it should.
It may mean I read more..and well..it should.
It may mean I pray more..and well..it should.
It will take more discipline..and well..it should.

Leaders lead by example, not by command..and leadership is a responsibility.

But every great leader is a great follower. Even Jesus knew that he had an authority in heaven. And all of us who claim to be leaders must first be the servant to all.

So to wrap it all up..leaders must be out front or they’re not leading..all the while serving all. It’s a complicated but simple paradigm that is confusing yet crystal clear.

Leaders lead.
