…but who are you?

we all like to be recognized..

we all like to be called by name..

we all like to know and be known..

we all like a little attention every now and then..

In Acts 19, there is a story of the Seven sons of Sceva. Mr. Sceva was a Jewish priest. And his sons, enamored with the attention Paul must have been getting, began trying to drive out demons too. They would say, “In the name of Jesus, whom Paul preaches, I command you to come out.”

The problem was that they were trying to invoke the name of the Lord without really being surrendered to Him. Kinda like doing ministry in your own power and not that of the divine.

End of the story:

“One day the evil spirit answered them, “Jesus I know, and I know about Paul, but who are you?” Then the man who had the evil spirit jumped on them and overpowered them all. He gave them such a beating that they ran out of the house naked and bleeding. (Acts 19:15-16)

Obviously, power to do miraculous things does not come from oneself.

My prayer today, “God let the enemy recognize me..not because of me..but because YOU are doing miraculous things through me!”

Yeah, that part jumped out at me, too. And so true! Without His power at work in us (and being fully surrendered to allow that power to work) we are SO much more vulnerable to 'attacks'~! Great post!

Thanks Jess. I’m working on a blog post now about the counter-intuitiveness of gaining power in surrender amidst the spiritual warfare. It’s an enigma that I want to tackle. We’ll see how much sense it makes when the letters hit the paper. Keep blogging, I love to read your honest posts. You inspire me.
