Just a quickie today…in reading 1 Samuel 23 & 24 just now i saw myself in David and wanted to share…see if anyone else has these moments…
in chapter 23 David sees an injustice, a bully nation is trying to take over a weaker nation…David’s gut feeling is that he should DO something…
but before he ACTS…he seeks the Lord’s approval of his idea…
the Lord clearly answers…He says to attack and save these people from death…
so David goes to rally the troops…and the troops are fearful and scared…they don’t think it’s a good idea.
at this point David has several options…he can force his troops to act…he could be swayed by their fear and just forget the whole thing (I mean it’s not “his” country that’s being attacked)…or he could watch and wait and try to plan his strategy just perfectly…
but David did something odd to me…
he goes back to the Lord and says, “are you sure?”
and again he hears clearly to go and help these people…
so after a second prayer session…and crystal clarity…he leads his troops into battle and saves the day!
oftentimes i have “gut feelings”…and sometimes i act before i pray…
and sometimes i’m convinced to act but am swayed by the world to inaction…
sometimes i over-think the “yes” and start trying to find reasons to change it to a “no”…
sometimes i’m paralyzed by needing the entire plan before acting (OCD)…
and sometimes i just go back to God and say, “are you sure?”
the lesson for me is to follow in David’s footsteps…to go with my gut if God has given me the “go-ahead”…not to be swayed by the nay-sayers…and not to be afraid to ask God again…if it’s “yes” once…it should be “yes” again.
