you want everything on that?

burger everythingThere are two excellent hamburger joints in C-Town (Covington)…One being Cosmo Joes and the other being the Pool Room on Washington Street. And when asked by Joe or Toni, “What do you want on your burger?” you very well may hear “everything.”

Likewise, in a conversation I just heard yesterday someone made the statement, “To him, money is “everything”.”

So, obviously we throw the word “everything” around flippantly. I’m sure that if you order a hamburger with everything on it, yo

u’re really only going to get whatever they have, such as ketchup, mustard, mayo, onions, etc. But you won’t truly get everything. And in the second example…well…money is just money…its one thing…not everything.

I guess what I’m saying is…well…I want Jesus to be my “everything.” I put so many other things in the everything category…when all I need is the one who wants to BE my everything.

I don’t want to take Jesus on and off like a winter coat. You know…depending on my situation and where I’m at or who I’m with. I want Him to BE everything. In the book of Matthew Jesus makes this point to his followers:

24Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. 25For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. 26For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul?

He is saying that I must give up the world…deny myself and my misleading mind…and let Him BE my everything. In all my thoughts, in all my words, in all my deeds…well…in everything…

This week at ECC we will be singing Everything by Tim Hughes. It is my favo

rite song this week. Here are the lyrics:

VERSE 1:

GOD IN MY LIVING

album-holding-nothing-back

THERE IN MY BREATHING
GOD IN MY WAKING

GOD IN MY SLEEPING

GOD IN MY RESTING
THERE IN MY WORKING
GOD IN MY THINKING
GOD IN MY SPEAKING

CHORUS:

BE MY EVERYTHING
BE MY EVERYTHING
BE MY EVERYTHING
BE MY EVERYTHING

VERSE 2:

GOD IN MY HOPING
THERE IN MY DREAMING
GOD IN MY WATCHING
GOD IN MY WAITING

GOD IN MY LAUGHING
THERE IN MY WEEPING
GOD IN MY HURTING
GOD IN MY HEALING

BRIDGE:

CHRIST IN ME
CHRIST IN ME
CHRIST IN ME THE HOPE OF GLORY
YOU ARE EVERYTHING

CHRIST IN ME
CHRIST IN ME
CHRIST IN ME THE HOPE OF GLORY
BE MY EVERYTHING

That will be my prayer this week…that He will be my everything.

“Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me.” Psalm 119:133
